Enjoy a taste of the city’s unique gastronomic offerings and explore some of London’s best food markets. From bustling Borough Market to the quaint Maltby Street Market, there’s something to suit every taste.
London is one of the most exciting culinary cities in the world, and with so many amazing food markets and street food stalls to visit, it's often difficult to know where to start. So I've done some research for you!
I've rounded up all the best places to find delicious treats from around the globe, whether that means checking out a local farmer's market or sampling exotic delicacies at an international market. The variety of cuisine on offer here is truly awe-inspiring: if you're looking for a new way to experience London's incredible food scene, then these markets are definitely worth a try.
Borough Market is one of the best places to go for food in London. It's open on Sundays and Mondays, which means you can get your fix of fresh produce at any point during the week. In addition to its wide variety of fruit and veg, it also has stalls selling meat and fish, so there's something for everyone!
If you're not sure where Borough Market is located, don't worry: it's just off London Bridge station (which is also served by other tube lines) so it'll be easy enough to find once you arrive in Southwark.
Brick Lane is a street in London's East End (Shoreditch), notable for its curry restaurants. Its name derives from the fact that it was originally just a brick lane, with the first house being built in 1746. Brick Lane was once home to Huguenot silk weavers who fled France after religious persecution and settled there in 1686; they were later joined by Jews fleeing pogroms in Eastern Europe during the late 19th century. Today, Brick Lane still retains some of its former character with colorful shops selling antiques, vintage clothing and jewellery; although many of these are now overshadowed by curry houses serving Bengali cuisine (which has become synonymous with Indian food).
Spitalfields Market is located in the heart of London's East End, near Brick Lane and Whitechapel, in a former Victorian market building. It's open every day from 10am to 4pm and has a variety of stalls selling fresh produce, meat and fish as well as prepared food. The indoor area also houses a bar and restaurant with seating for up to 500 people.
Columbia Road Flower Market is the place to go for flowers, plants and food. Located in Hoxton, near Shoreditch and it's open every Sunday from 8am to 3pm and it's a great place to go for a Sunday morning walk. There are many stalls selling food, including Turkish Delight from Kayseri Baklava (which is delicious), fresh fruit smoothies at Juice Guru, vegan cakes at VxV Vegan Bakery and organic coffee from Toby's Estate Coffee Roasters.
If you're looking for something more substantial than just cake or Turkish Delight then head down towards the end of Columbia Road where there are several restaurants serving up traditional British cuisine such as fish & chips or pies with mash potato (known as "chippy tea").
Located on Portobello Road, just off of Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove, this food market is a must-visit for any visitor to London. The street itself is lined with shops, restaurants and cafes so you can easily spend an afternoon wandering around this area before or after your visit to the market.
The best time to visit Portobello Road Food Market is on Saturdays from 9am until 4pm when there are over 50 stalls selling everything from organic meat pies to homemade ice cream (and everything in between). There are also plenty of places where you can grab something quick for lunch or dinner - I recommend trying one of their many different types of pizza!
Maltby Street Market is located in south London, just a short walk from London Brdige station. It's open every weekend from 9am to 5pm (or later if the mood takes them).
There's no need to worry about getting there as it's right by the main road, so you can easily find a taxi or bus stop. If you're feeling adventurous and want to save some money on public transport costs, then why not cycle? Or if you're feeling really adventurous why not try walking? It might take longer but then again maybe not!
When it comes to food markets, Camden Lock Market is a great place to go. It has lots of different cuisines and places to eat - from Moroccan to Italian and everything in between! The atmosphere is lively and fun, but relaxed at the same time. If you're looking for somewhere outdoors where you can enjoy some sunshine while having lunch or dinner, this is definitely one of the best options in London (and there are plenty more).
The market is open all year round; however its busiest times tend to be spring/summer months when there are concerts going on nearby as well as during winter when people want to visit London for Christmas.
Broadway Market is located in Shoreditch and is a great place to visit if you're looking for something different. It's one of the most popular markets in London, with stalls offering everything from organic fruit and vegetables to clothing and accessories.
The market has been around since the 1800s but was closed down during World War II due to bomb damage. It reopened in 1946, with its current location being built around 1950 when it became part of the borough of Hackney (which includes Dalston). Today Broadway Market attracts over 2 million visitors each year who come here for their food as well as other goods such as homemade jewellery or artworks created by local artists.
The best thing about this market? The food! You'll find everything from burgers made with locally sourced meat through to donuts made fresh every morning by Doughnut Time who have their own stall there too! You can also try traditional British dishes like fish & chips at one of several restaurants located within walking distance from Broadway Market itself too - just look out for signs saying 'restaurant' near where they sell these items :)
If you're looking for a large, diverse food market that will appeal to everyone in your group, Mercato Metropolitano is the place to go. Mercato Metropolitano is a large indoor food market located in Elephant and Castle, London. It features a variety of food stalls, offering international cuisine, artisanal products, and organic produce. The market also includes a bar, a coffee roastery, and a community space for events and workshops. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, with a focus on sustainability and community. Mercato Metropolitano is a popular destination for both local residents and visitors to the area.
Whitechapel Market is a great place for shopping and eating. It's open seven days a week, from 9am to 5pm. The market is located in Whitechapel, London, which means you can also do some sightseeing while exploring the food stalls or small shops that line its streets.
