One of the best city farms and park in London open to the public. Visit a very unusual and unique place in the city where you will find over 100 animals of different species and learn about them.

Mudchute Park and Farm is a 32 acre city farm open to the public ran by the Mudchute Association. The farm has and breeds over 100 animals of several species including but not limited to pigs, cows, goats, sheeps, chickens, turkeys and even llamas!

Where is Mudchute Park and Farm and When to visit it?


Mudchute Farm is actually located not so far from south of Canary Wharf. It is open everyday from 10 am to 4pm and you can easily get there via the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Download a map of Mudchute to see how it looks.

It is located near Millwall Park and you could visit it in 2-3h depending whether or not you feel like doing any of the activities outlined below.

What can I do or see in London's Mudchute Farm?


Visiting Mudchute is an unusual and exciting activity to do in the big city of London. It is one of the best city farms in London where you can have a feeling of nature while in the city, promote animal welfare and participate in one or more activities offered by the association.

1. Meet British Farm Animals

Mudchute farms and breeds over 100 animals of several species. During you visit, you will meet cows, pigs, sheeps, goats, donkeys, rabbits, numerous types of birds and even llamas! I was surprised to see llamas despite being from South America but I could not find out how Mudchute got them.

Since the animals are in open spaces surrounded by small gates and fences, you can also pet, hear and learn about them. There are several breeds of animals to learn from such as the Tamworth pig, Oxford Down sheep, Golden Gernsey goat, just to mention a few.

You can also purchase feeding bags for £1 near the caffe.

2. Have a picnic or eat at the farm

Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and have it at the courtyard located near the main cafe building where there are several picnic tables. Remember to wash your hands if you have interacted with any animals and DO NOT eat in open fields where the animal glaze. There are several health and safety reasons for this and also you wouldn't want to eat your food while smelling farm animal essence...

You can also eat at the Mudchute Kitchen for a very reasonable price. The staff serve home-cooked food with the dishes cooked onsite and serve breakfast, lunch, sandwhiches and desserts. Note that the Kitchen is closed from Monday to Wednesday but opened from 10am to 4pm any other day.

3. Bring your Dog!

Dogs are also welcome to Mudchute farm and cafe. There are large green areas where you can take them off the leash as long as they do not disturb other animals in the farm. Also remember to be responsible with you canine friend keeping it on the leash when walking to the cafe amoung other things.

4. Take a Horseriding lesson

The Mudchute Equestrian centre offers horseriding lessons in exchange of a contribution. Even during your visit, you can take a short horse-riding lessons for yourself or kids.

You can also take other farm-related courses such as keeping chickens, spinning wool, laying hedges, and other countryside activies.

5. Attend or Host your own Event

Host events for up to 1,000 guests using Mudchute indoor and outdoor spaces. Events includes but are not limited to barbecues, parties, company fund days, awards, product lunches, filming and more.

Alternatively, Mudchute offers a variety of events such as Easter Parades, Christmas Fairs, Farm Routines and more events that you can attend to for a very small price.

6. Volunteer

If you are over the age of 16 and looking for work experience or volunteering work Mudchute Park and Farm offers a range of work experience placements. The role varies on the amount of time you have to volunteer and your skills and interests but could be anything from helping the Equestrian Centre, Mudchute Kitchen staff, caring for animals, helping in after school clubs and more.
