Where is the Best Beach in Cuba?

Cuba, the land of cigars, rum, ladies, Salsa, 1950s cars, boxing, baseball, Che Guevara and communism 💃. The beaches in Cuba are, in my opinion, one of the best beaches in the entire Caribbean with over 3,500 miles of white to honey beige sand and clistar clear water.

In this blog you will learn where the best beach in Cuba is and why. Remember to check my other blogs to learn more about Cuba, interesting facts about the country and even other adventurers to take inspiration from =).

Varadero, the best beach in Cuba

Varadero Beach

To me, the winner here is Varadero beach (or Playa de Varadero) 93 miles or approximately 2 hours from the capital. Why did I like this place? Warm white sand, beautiful turquose color and miles of soft sand are probably the main reasons why I chose this beach as the winner. Even TripAdvisor gave this place “Traveller's Choice 2019” award in 2019.

Varadero is a peninsula in Cuba with 20km of Atlantic Ocean coastline is a string of all-inclusive hotel. It was the first time that I stayed in an all-inclusive hotel for a very cheap price as well, as I paid around £300 ($380) for 4 nights and 3 people (my Cuban grandma, my father and myself). There are also many activities to do in the peninsula and you can find a list and prices below.

Where to stay in Varadero?

I stayed in a hotel called "Be Live Experience Varadero" for slightly over £300 ($380) for 4 nights and 3 people (my Cuban grandma, my father and myself). I booked this place in booking.com and the hotel was all-inclusive, meaning that food, drinks and activities were all included.

What I liked the most about the hotel were the activites at night including spectacular shows, stand-up comedy, games like bingo, and the most popular and traditional dance in Cuba - salsa! Breakfast was a buffet-like breakfast where you serve yourself and lunch and dinner had a variation of options too which was nice.

What to do in Varadero?

Other than 20km of white sand beaches and turqouse water, Varadero also has multiple spa centres, theatres and even golf courses. When I went there was a concert of a popular Cuban reggaeton duo "Gente de Zona" but tickets ran out and I totally missed it... Hopefully you have better luck than me.

Below I leave a map of varadero together with a list of excursions and different prices in CUC. Activities include but are not limited to swimming with dolphins, snorkling, boat adventure, scuba diving, tours to other cities and more. I believe the most expensive activities were fishing and staying over other cities.

How to get to Varadero from La Habana?

Varadero is only 93 miles or 142km from La Habana (Havana), which is around a 2h drive from the capital. The price by taxi from one city to the other is around 120 CUC ($120) and by bus is around 20 CUC ($20) per person.

If you are traveling by air, you can arrive at Varadero Airport also called Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport in Matanzas, Cuba.
