Find out what to do and where to go in Kuala Lumpu, Malaysia. A list of top Attractions in KL, popular places and hidden gems for your next trip.

12 Best Places to Visit in Kuala Lumpur

1. Batu Caves

Stairs Batu Caves

One of my favourite places in KL here you can find a Hindu temple at the top of a limestone hill after going up just a few 272 steps colourfull stairs.

You can also find and feed monkeys at the bottom of this hill together with a colossal (42.7 metres) gold-painted statue of Murugan (Tamil God).

Entrance to the Batu Caves is free (just need to go upstairs) and is located several miles North from the city center. You can either go by train (RM 2-3) or by car (RM 25 – 40). The estimated time to visit is approximately 2h.

2. Thean Hou Temple (Buddhist temple)

Thean Hou Temple, Kuala Lumpur

A Chinese Buddhist temple dedicated to the Queen of Heaven, Thean Hou. Very beautiful temple worth visiting. You can tell the diversity of people and religion in this city.

Entrance to the Thean Hou temple is free and is located near the city center to it is farelatibily cheap and easy to commute.

3. Central Market

Probably the best place to do some shopping. It is a two-floor market where you can find a variaty of food (including exotic South Asia fruits), goods (such as clothes, bags and more) and souvenirs.

It was founded in 1888 and originally used as a wet market, yet it is now classified as a Heritage Site by the Malaysian Heritage Society, and it is now a landmark for Malaysian culture and heritage.

Very close to the city center with Pasar Seni as the closest tube station. Central Market is also very close to another shopping area which is Petaling street (see below).

4. Petaling Street

Petaling Street

Central Market and Petaling street very close to each other and very good place to do some shopping and get souveniers, traditional clothes, absolutely original (sarcasm) Gucci bags or Supreme T-Shirts or anything you can think off for a very good price.

This place is usually crowded with locals as well as tourists. Here you can find a street full of goods such as clothes, bags, hand-made statues and more as well as another street full of street food with traditional dishes, different cousines and exotic fruits.

5. Bukit Bintang Walkway (Bridge-tunnel)

Bukit Bintang Walkway with air conditioning

The KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway is a 1.173km-long pedestrian bridge that connects Pavilion KL to Impiana KLCC Hotel and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

It is air-conditioned so you do not have to stand the extreme hot outdoors when commuting!

6. Sephora & Sephora Fountain

Sephora KL

Sephora is originally a French multinational retailer of personal care and beauty products. The Sephora store in Kuala Lumpur has a great architecture which I personally found very appealing.

Sephora KL sits directly beside Starhill Gallery and Pavilion KL is just around the corner. So it's a great place to see before or after the Bukit Bintang Walkway described previously.

7. Petronas Twin Towers

Kuala Lumpur Petronas Twin Tower

The tallests twin towers in the world since 2011 and one of the most touristic places in the city but very worth visiting it. You can also book a ticket to visit the twin towers to the bridge between the towers in the 43rd floor I believe, or to the highest point in the 86thfloor.

Built in 1998, Petronas are the 7th Tallest Building In The World and the Tallest Twin Towers In The World. Petronas Twin towers are 451.9 meter (1,483 feet) tall.

Here you can also find the Suria KLCC which is a 6-storey shopping mall located at the foot of the Petronas Twin Towers. Suria KLCC is a premier shopping destination with over 300 flagship stores, so it is a bit more expensive than the markets previously mentioned.

8. KLCC Park

The KLCC Park is an urban park in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The park has been designed to provide greenery to Petronas Twin Towers and the areas surrounding it.

It is a very relaxing and not so busy urban park great for picnics, a relaxing break and photography.

9. Bukit Bintang Street Art

Part of KL Bukit Bintang street art

A street with very creative art and cool graffiti’s which are a huge part of KL culture. Here you can find Cartoon clouds and nature-inspired murals have transformed the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

I unfortunately did not take many photos here but bukit bintang street art many colourful buildings, floors and structures perfect for some photography and artistic walk.

Nearest station to Bukit Bintang street art is Bukit Bintang station.

10. Sultan Abdul Samad Building (Independence Square)

Sultan Abdul Samad Building

The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is a late-nineteenth century building. The building serves as the backdrop for important events such as the National Day Parade on 31 August and the ushering in of the New Year. Each of the 13 states plus the Federal Territories are represented in the National Day Parade, as are the many ethnic groups that comprise multiracial Malaysia.

Merdeka Square is a square located situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Merdeka means independence and this is the place that marked the independence of Malaysia from colonial rule on 31 August 1957.

Sultan Abdul Samad Building is hardly a 10-minute walk from Jamek LRT station.

11. Helipad Lounge Bar

This helicopter pad morphs into a sprawling rooftop bar in the evenings, with DJs & killer views. Definately one of my preferred bars in Kuala Lumpur together with KL SkyBar yet this place is less crowded, has better views and it's in a more unique place.

Nearest station to the Heli Lounge Bar is Rajan Chulan.

12. Bukit Bintang

Just like London's Picadilly Circus, this is the main shopping and nightlife district. Bukit Bintang is well known to be the nightlife, lifestyle and shopping hub of Kuala Lumpur.

Here you can find famous and local food retailers, trendiest shopping, and plenty of entertainment.

Nearest station to Bukit Bintang street art is Bukit Bintang station.
